3. Important Considerations When Applying to State Universities and Community Colleges

(1) Application Deadlines
- Even at state universities, popular majors such as Business and Computer Science (CS) may have earlier priority deadlines.
- Most community colleges accept applications relatively late (May-July), but it's advisable to prepare early to allow sufficient time for visa issuance.

(2) English Proficiency Requirements
- Community colleges often have lower TOEFL/IELTS requirements compared to state universities.
- If your English proficiency is insufficient, there's also the option to first complete an intensive English program (ESL) and then advance to the regular curriculum after completing the required level.

(3) Financial Documentation Required for Visa Applications
- Proof of funds (such as bank statements) that can cover tuition and living expenses for one year is essential.
- The required proof amount is determined based on the "Estimated Cost of Attendance" provided by the university or community college.

(4) Transfer System
- Community colleges in California provide extremely strong support for transfers to UC/CSU.
- There are many examples of relatively smooth transfers to top schools, even for Business and Computer Science majors.
- The route of attending community college for 2 years, then transferring to the third year of a 4-year university to earn a bachelor's degree offers significant financial benefits.
